Full Description

Excavations by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in 1988, revealed a south-western square tower that had been added to the western front of the Priory Church during the later 15th century. It may have been added for structural reasons, however, a north-west had been added to the front of the church during the late 14th century, and this additional tower may have been built to visually balance the church frontage.

The SW Tower is known to have been standing by 1495 when Alice Consaunt of St. John's Hospital was buried in the 'belfry'.
