Full Description
Almost immediately after the fire of 1145 which destroyed Lanfranc's church, work began on rebuilding it beginning with the east end.
The new choir, built in Romanesque style, measured some 6.85m wide N-S by a minimum of 11.85m E-W, the remainder ran beyond the excavation limits. Incised late 12th century tiles were used to pave the floor between 1160-80, the floor being the final part of the Choirs construction shows that the superstructure had been completed before that date.
The church was demolished at the Dissolution c. 1538.
