Full Description
A rectangular shaped building is shown attached to the north side of the Guest Hall, measuring about 28 feet by 20 feet in size and similar to another such building further to the north, is shown on the 1990 O.S. Map of Roman and Medieval Canterbury. However, as in the case of the other similar structure its function and exact dimensions are presently uncertain. However on a three dimesional plan dated 1595 this structure and the adjacent similar structure (see MKE92093) appear as two single storied buildings either side of a central stone-built gateway, about 20 feet wide, fronting a bridge over the river and must therefore have been a gatehouse with accommodation for the gatekeeper and or guests.
