Summary

The Chapter House, probably built between 1237 and 1260, lay immediately east of what may have been the Prior's Lodge forming the eastern range around the cloister and what is now south of the present Blackfriars Street.

Full Description

The Chapter House, probably built between 1237 and 1260, lay immediately east of what may have been the Prior's Lodge forming the eastern range around the cloister and what is now south of the present Blackfriars Street. The Chapter House the meeting house for the friars, where daily rules, regulations and tasks were decided upon and delegated. The structure was rectangular shaped measuring approximately 40 feet long E-W by abot 20 feet N-S. The building was constructed from uncoursed flints and chalk blocks set in a hard yellow mortar. The chapter house was probaly demolished at the Dissolution of 1538.
