Summary

his area was enclosed by a large ovoid shaped dyke and was known as Binnewith Island, it is this land that Alderman John Digge gave to the Friary in 1267. The friary was surrounded by dyke pallisade and ditch, rather than stone walling.

Full Description

The land given to the Franciscan Friary fell at the junction of four parishes and was located to the south-west of the Poor Priests Hospital where the river Stour ran its course. This area was enclosed by a large ovoid shaped dyke and was known as Binnewith Island, it is this land that Alderman John Digge gave to the Friary in 1267. The friary was surrounded by dyke pallisade and ditch, rather than stone walling.
