Summary

A post-medieval wharf at the north end of Motney Hill, marked on the 1840's tithe map along with a building of unknown purpose and a sand pit (see TQ 86 NW 1097 and 1098) (no trace now to be seen). On the 3rd edition Ordnance survey map this wharf is identified as Motley Hill Dock (1905-1922).

Full Description

Wharf at N end of Motney Hill, marked on 1840s tithe map along with a building of unknown purpose (TQ 86 NW 1097) (no trace now to be seen).

(TQ 86 NW 1098) Sand extraction began late C19 (marked on 1908 (2nd ed) OS map) (1). Identified as Motley Hill Dock on 3rd ed. OS map (2). Additional reference (3) and site photographs (4-8).
