Monument record TR 15 NW 1778 - Prehistoric Shallow Clay Extraction Pit (1-2 Marlowe Arcade)
Summary
The earliest features within the excavation area were clay extraction pits, dating to late first century BC-c.AD 70/80, which seem to have been gradually refilled and not generally used for the disposal of rubbish. This record relates to Clay extraction Pits (741), for clay or brickearth extraction. The pit contained fragments of a clay mould used in the production of precious metal pellets-possibly a coin mould.
