Monument record TR 15 NE 1438 - Anglo-Saxon Structural Evidence, east side of Canterbury Lane
Summary
Two successive late Saxon floors were found overlying remains of a Roman timber building consisting of a sleeper beam trench and a gravel floor. The natural brickearth was sealed by a layer of loamy soil containing small chalk lumps and Belgic sherds; and interpreted as pre-Roman plough soil.
