Full Description
"In October, 1818, upon digging for the foundation of a powder magazine [ See TQ 37 SW 33 for 18th C. "gunpowder manufactory" on site of Eliz. paper mill], near Dartford, the workmen discovered three ancient spearheads, the umbo of a shield, a brass ring of about three inches in diameter, and a few beads, formed of a yellow composition, - the spearheads were greatly corroded, the length of one was sixteen inches, another fourteen, and the third, only five and a half. There was also a smaller weapon, about three inches long, having apparently a hook attached." (1) Spurrell indicates 'Teutonic Burials' at TQ 5481 7297 - his site No. 34X. This clearly shows that the powder mill referred to is that at TQ 548729. [See TQ 57 SW 33] (2-3)
