Direct quote from unpublished Archaeological Report: "Small threshing barn. Probably frist half of the 17th century but could be earlier. Various late 19th century and early 20th century lean-to additions. Weatherboarded timber framing although it was orginally exposed framing, the panels filled with lath and daub on upright staves, Ragstone footings; corrugated iron roof, formely thatch. Small 5-bay barn facing north onto farmyard. Single rear aisle. Central threshing floor with old double doors. According to the farmer rear doorway had a mistrey and tall doors but was disused, the midstrey is hipped both ends. Interior includes a larger number of reused timber as one might expect on reclaimed marshland. Several timbers were once part of a house, e.g. the tie beams each side of the threshing floor include mortises for diamond mullion windows. Main walls have 2-tier framing with curving tension braces to upper panels. Curving arch braces to aisle plate and ties and internal shores each side of the threshing floor. Common rafter rood with lap-jointed collars only partly survives (much was replaced after the 1987 hurricane). Rear aisle wall has been dropped a short distance. Various outshuts, used as stable (with stalling for 2 horses), cartshed and bullock shed have plain carpentry of indeterminate date. The stables and bullock shed appear to have been built by the time of the 1906 OS map and maybe the buildings represented on the 1839 tithe map." (1)
