Full Description
Archaeological report quote: "6-bay barn. Late 19th century or late, but on a site that has been occupied by a large agricultural building (probably a barn) since at least 1842. Flemish bon brick with blue headers; shallow-pitched slate roof, gabled at ends; clay ridge tiles. Barn occupies part of the northwest side of a large yard, roofed on a southwest-northeast axis. Tall doorway on front facing yard in 4th bay from southwest end, reduced in windows in left end, associated with recent use as farm shop. Rear elevation has modern brick porch with corrugated plastic lean-to roof; 20th century garage adjoins at northeast end with entrance on northwest side. Interior partially seen. Trusses have tie beams on brick corbels with iron bars for queen posts. Collars fixed to principles with iron gussets. A horizontal timber on top of the collar has diagonal braces up to the principal. 3 tiers of purlins; 2nd tier on cleats; ridge-board. Does not correspond precisely to the outlines of the building shown in this position on the 1907 OS map." (1)
