Full Description

Quote from archaeological survey: "Granary. Mid 19th century. Weatherboarded timber frame 9some of cladding replaced with asbestos sheeting) on Flemish boon brick base; pyramidal slate roof. Small granary built in the northeast corner of the farmyard, its eastern side built over or with the eastern boundary wall alongside the road. It faces south into the yard. The granary is square in plan and raised above the ground on three brick walls running from back to front, that is to say 2 walls and the fron boundary between the centre and western wall- the front has a small plank door with window to right. Granary doorway in centre of south wall requires a ladder access and contains a plain plank door on strap hinges and includes a cat-hole. There are small windows on each side, both towards the front; the (probably original) has a grille of iron bars and a shutter. Frame of slender scantling with straight tension braces. Interior walls are boarded. There are the remains of the timber grain bins. Common rafter roof with large timber boss at apex containing a large hook for a sack hoist." (1)
