Full Description

Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Barley barn with 2 threshing floors. Dated 1820 by Robert Collard, extensively but carefully rebuilt after severe storm damage in 1987. Flemish bond red brick with stepped plinth; pegtile roof. Impressive 9-bay aisled barn on rough northwest-southeast axis, facing southwest onto large yard. Northwest end terraced into hillslope. Opposing doorways to 2 former threshing floors. Rear doorways now blocked abd front doors are late 20th century metal rolling shutters. Northwest end wall contains 20th century window over a patch of blocking and southeast end has another patch of blocking below 5 breather vents. Interior fitted out c.1988 for barley storage. Roof construction surprisingly old-fashioned but timbers are not reused. Shored aisle posys with angular-shaped jowls, arcade plate of unusuakky large scantling, straight braces to aisle plates and tiebeams (see sketch section). Above tie beam collared common rafter roof, all with pegged joints. Although structure is all orginal it was extensively strengthed during the 1988 repairs." (1)
