Full Description

Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Stables with trap house. Dated 1840 for Richard Collard. Flemish bond yellow brick; monopitch corrugated asbestos rood, formely double pitch pegtile roof. This range is that part of the southwest side of the farmyard to southeast of the farm entrance. It backs onto the lane and is built continously with the walls of the farmyard entrance. Brick crosswalls divide the range into 4 units. The larger 2 central units are stables, with tackroom to left (northwest) and trap house to right (southeast). The tack room has a plain plank front door. Stables have 3 front doorways, two to left stable, one to right stable. All have 2-flap doors but left 2 have overlights with timber grille and right doorway overlight has a top-hung shutter. A series of 5 small stone blocks in the front wall of the stables section have iron tethering rings and same section has pattern of vertical breathers higher in the wall and protected by cast iron grilles- this is interrupted by the date plaque 9more or less in the centre). The trap house has a full-height wide doorway with timber segmental arch head and contains plain double doors. Rear includes one original casement above a top-hung feeding hatch but remainder of openings here are 20th century." (1)
