Full Description
Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Former threshing barn. Second half of the 17th century. Weatherboarded timber framing on red brick footings; thatched rood (old thatch patched with thistles) hipped both ends, 5-bay aisled barn on rough EW axis. It orginally had opposing doorways to central threshing floor but doorways are disused and blocked. Evidence of double foors on south side but little more than a hatch to N. Building has been adapted to store various materials, principally potatoes and straw bales. The present doorway (late 19th century or 20th century) is in the east end wall. N wall contains an irregular series of 6 hatches, mostly small and boarded and west end wall has a single boarded hatch at the left (w) end. Much of inside walls clad but walls appear to be of modest scantling with straight tension braces. Aisle posts and main posts have formed jowls. Normal assembly, unusual double braces from aisle ties to posts, straight or convex braces to arcade plates and tie beams. A truss over each tie and also intermediate trusses, all A-frames with pegged and mortised collars and staggered butt purlins. Both ends floored 20th century." (1)
