Full Description

Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Stable with hayloft. Late 19th century. Flemish bond brick; gable-ended corrugated iron roof. Stable on rough NS axis, facing W into the yard. It forms the eastern side of the farmyard with a gap to the north (to the barn) froming the farm entrance. The rear of the stables lines the west side of the farm drive. Block contains 3 main stables, the northen end one larger than the other two. All three have central front doorways (now blocked). The left (northern) stable is now flanked by lifting casements with glazing bars, the other two have a similar window each in the rear wall. N end wall has a ground floor doorway to the loft complete with small platform. The loft has a small window under the gable at the other (south0 end. A clasping buttress on the SE corner protected that corner as wagons turned off the lane into the farm drive. Interior is well-preserved with brick floor and original timber stall partitions. There are 4 stalls in the northern stable and 2 larger and 2 larger stalls in each of the others (see plan). The stables have connecting doorways at the front. Hayloft was not available for inspection and therefore the roff structure not seen." (1)
