Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Oasthouse. Late 19th century. Flemish bond yellow brick with cogged cornices and segmental arch heads to openings; slate roof. Oast built on an eas-west acis facing north towards 20th century shed on site of ruined archbishop's palace. 3-bay stowage is 2 storeys high with loft and 2 square hopkilns, one each end. Front has central wide double doors, with 2-flap loading door above and another loading door above that to the loft. Loft doorway rises through eaves with its own gabled roof which projects forward on plain timber brackets to shelter the tumber wheel of a poke-hoist. There is another small door to left (east) of the main doors. Front has a 2-window front and rear has a 3-window front, all orignial 2-light casements with glazing bars. The cornices of the kilns are interrupted by narrow horizontal glazed windows. Interior has plain sturdy carpentry; it is relatively high quality carpentry. The crossbeams are carried on pilaster buttresses and the joists are strengthened with x-braces. Roof of tiebeam trusses with neat mortise-and-tenoned collars. Stairs rise in northeast corner of stowage but needed a ladder to reach the loft. According to a series of dates and quantities stencilled onto the boarded walls the stair the oast was last used in 1971." (1)
