Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Lofted stable block, facing the main block of the house, parallel to it and forming the east boundary of the courtyard. Stable has a rear left wing at right angles and a secondary block, perhaps a harness room set back and adjoining at the left (north) end. C.early 19th century. Ground floor English bond red brick with some blue headers, loft Flemish bond; secondary rear left wing at right angles on flint rubble footings; hipped peg-tile roof, partly clad in polythene following theft of some tiles. Remains of outshut to main block is now roofless. Almost symmetrical front, the openings with segmental-headed arches: central doorway flanked by windows, the right hand window reduced in width. Central loft loading door flanked by windows. Left hand addition has two doorways. Rear wing has doorway on north side and window east side. Outshut has wide doorway on south end suggesting carriage-house/cartshed function. Interior: Full access to interior unobtainable at time of survey for security reasons but loft of main block has 4 tie beams, unrelated to the collar rafter trusses where the collars are halved and nailed onto the rafters; ridge board. Loft partially clad with vertical boarding. Apex-high wall between main block and rear wing. No obvious evidence that the building was ever used as an oast-house, in spite of L-plan - in fact the stable door into the wing and its internal cladding suggests stable use." (1)
