Full Description
Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Stables, probably for working horses. Late 18th century. Flemish bond red brick with pegtile roof. Cogged brick cornice carried across end walls below gables. T-plan building with main block on rough east-west axis. It forms southern side of south courtyard and faces north. Harness/tack room projects forward from middle of the front. Symmetrical front with gable-end wall of harness/tack room in centre which contains 3 small windows under the cornice. Larger central window lit central corridor with small flanking window to tack rooms. First floor has low window under segmental arch to loft and probably replaced loading hatch. Openings are original but windows are 20th century. Each side the front of the main block includes a doorway towards the middle and an outer window. The left east doorway has a solid timber frame with chamfered surround and contains old, if not original, 2-flap door (the top one pannelled) under glazed overlight." (1)
