Full Description

Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Small 2-bay building sited rear (south) of the former farmhouse and parallel to it, on a west east axis. The 3rd edition c.1907 OS map shows what appears to be a longer range on the site. This is puzzling as the extant building appears to be c. early 19th century, and although it makes use of re-used timbers it appears to be complete and not truncated. Timber framed and weatherboarded on a brick plinth; thatched roof with surface stitching, hipped at ends. 2 doorways in the centre on the north side; 20th century ribbon window on east end and partition is weatherboarded with wattle and daub above. Wall-framing incorporates jowled posts. Clasped purlin roof with pole-like rafters; thatch laid on sticks. Brick floor to right hand bay; modern brick lavatory built off rear right wall. Possibly a cow-house for a house cow; or a stable for riding horses." (1)
