Monument record TR 15 NW 1937 - Anglo-Saxon Hut 3 Simon Langton Yard

Summary

Only part uncovered, it was considerably smaller then Hut 1 and produced less Anglo-Saxon occupation material. A sixth-century stamped sherd found, is likely to have derived from the Hut. Postholes belonging to the north and west walls were found in trench V and here the complex closely-spaced large and small postholes indicates rebuilding.

Full Description

Only part uncovered, it was considerably smaller then Hut 1 and produced less Anglo-Saxon occupation material. A sixth-century stamped sherd found, is likely to have derived from the Hut.

Postholes belonging to the north and west walls were found in trench V and here the complex closely-spaced large and small postholes indicates rebuilding. A small portion of the east of the hut, and a hearth, were uncovered in Trench VIII. The hut was covered by 'dark earthy' burnt destruction layers which were somewhat disturbed. A coin of Constans was found in layer V and a rim sherd was recovered from trench VIII where occupation layers were contaminated by medieval disturbance.
