Full Description

At the eastern end of Structure 28, an area of scattered flint and tile rubble was plotted in detail to determine if it would resolve into a timber building with rubble wall foundations similar to S28. Few post holes were found as it appeared posts rested on a sill beam. However, a hearth (context 214) was located, similar to hearth 119 in construction. Two shallow trenches (context 378 and 379 may have been part of a timber wall framework associated with the hearth. Trenches were both filled with loos grey brown loam similar to the fill of gully 205 and may also have possibly been part of a property boundary. Similar trenches were noted in the plans of Saxon structures in Portchester
