Full Description
Cellared structure, sunken area of which is aligned parallel to St Margarets Street. Only the edge of this cellar was located, the remainder beneath the sections. The cellar had been cut down to the clean natural brickearth to give a depth of 80cm. Three square cut post holes all backfilled with soft greyish-brown loam and brickearth lumps, cut the base of the cellar. These post holes which held timbers to support the floor and structure above, also held back a wattle lining against the sides of the cellar. Base of sunken area was covered by a thin spread of black trampled silt.
No direct dating evidence although backfill produced pottery dating to c.950-75. Therefore broadly contemporary with structure S29.
