Full Description
At some time after the 7-8th centuries a courtyard was laid across the area, possibly relating to the Saxon Cathedral. The courtyard may have been resurfaced and had a number of deposits laying over it. Across this cut a large wall foundation running N/S along the middle of the site. The wall itself was completely robbed but it pre-dated the Cathedral transept, dated to c. 1096, and may relate to Lanfranc's 1070-1077 Cathedral.
The 1096 foundation of the NE transept was exposed, cutting through most of the horizontal deposits on the site, and also through the earlier N/S wall foundation. (1)
