Monument record TR 15 NW 1958 - Anglo-Saxon Occupation, Animal Penning, 76 Castle Street

Summary

The Roman layers were sealed by a 15cm thick deposit of dark loam yielding 6th century potsherds and an early Anglo-Saxon copper alloy brooch. Worn areas in the loam, extending into the latest courtyard surface may be indicative of early Anglo-Saxon occupation, perhaps the penning of animals.
