In April and Summer 1948 a number of excavation trenches were dug by The Canterbury Excavation Committee on the south eastern frontage of St Margaret's Street, in adavance of the construction of a car park. Further work was also undertaken in April 1955. Above the SW half of Room 4, in the area between two cellars, a greater depth of stratification survived, and here Saxon levels were found immediately above the Roman. Three pits were found, two of which contained hand made Saxon pottery, a bone comb was also found.

In 1978 The Canterbury Archaeological Trust excavated upon the site of the present 12-16 Marlowe Arcade in advance of development. Four discrete areas of features relating to Anglo-Saxon activity were seen within area MII, at least two of which were structures (S12 and S11). Other features included a hearth (B143), Oven (B147). There was a gap of approximately 500 years between this period and the robbing of the Roman walls in the twelfth century. However, no significantly deep build up of deposits occurred aprt from localised mounds of rubble collapsed from the walls of the Roman Baths.
