Full Description

Reference from Archaeological Survey: "Threshing barn. Early 19th century. Weatherboarded timber frame on red brick footings, some brick underpinning and repairs, some corrugated iron cladding; half-hipped peg-tile roof with glass tile lights. The barn is built across the gentle slope on a rough east-west axis. It is 11 bays and faces north (with contemporary cattleshed backing onto south side). Eastern 2 bays divied off with full height crosswall and it is floored. Part of the main barn may have been floored but is now open to rood. Main entrance now through west end but original doorway in north wall third bay from west (on evidence of raised middle rail). There are existing small doorways in front wall 93 towards east end and one at west end) but it was not possible in the time available to determine whether or not these are original because of the amount of later alterations. West floored section has boarded hatch and main barn has large double doors to upper section fourth bay from west. Series of front windows are all 20th century but some may replace earlier windows or even doorways…" (1)
