Full Description
An early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) charter (AD 792) mentions a market inside the walls close to the Queninage on the east side of the city. 'High Cross' stood here, where butchers used to bait bulls. Called 'forum' in 12th century. Not associated with particular commidity, only poultry mark.
