Monument record TR 15 NW 1984 - Roman tile floor at Western end of Jewry Lane

Summary

During work to the main drainage system of Canterbury the city engineer, James Pilbrow, observed a possible hypocaust building. This was located at the western end of Jewry Lane. The finds were described as being a 'floor 1.37m under surface, composed of Roman tiles laid two thick upon a bed of brick dust, mortar and concrete, and under this bed of flints.
