Monument record TR 15 NE 1488 - Roman cremation, east end of St. George's Street

Summary

A Roman mortuary urn was found near St George's Gate. The urn was discovered at a depth of 2.44m and was filled with burnt bones and nearby was found a highly ornamented cross or fibula. The soil below contained animal remains amongst which were Bos Longifrons and a small species of boar. Summary from record TR 15 NE 313: A Roman cremation was found near St George's Church in 1860.
