Monument record TR 15 NW 2006 - Roman Tessalated Floor, Gravel Walk
Summary
A Roman tesselated pavement, constructed of brick tesserae in concrete as well as broken hypocaust tiles were observed in the centre of the former Simon Langton's school playground in 1886 during the laying of a drain or gas pipe. This was found at a depth of about 1.22m from the surface and about 1.22m-1.52m square of the surface was revealed. It was covered with dark earth.
