Full Description

Reference from archaeological survey: "Oasthouse. Flemish bond stock brick; slate roof; sited prominently at the south end of the yard, on a north west/south east axis. 3 kilns at south east end , each round on plan with conical pegtile roofs. A plaque on the south east end states that it was erected by Mr James Rich in 1840? (Last digit difficult to read) and named Trustees of Kiffords Charity. Painted date of 1866 on stowage. The 2 kilns at the south east end have iron bands, the third kiln is probably and addition. Stowage has 4 doors on the north east side 9facing the yard) with iron steps up to a platform in front of the central first floor doorway with a swivelling gantry alongside. It should be possible to pursue the building history of this oast in detail." (1)
