Building record TQ 65 SW 191 - Fattening shed at Old Soar Road

Summary

Fattening shed. Sited southeast of the famrhouse, probably ealry 19th century, at Old Soar Road A fattening shed built in the 1830s. The rear wall is built of stone rubble; it has a truncated north end, and is weatherboarded on brick footings. The north bay of the building is enclosed with brick walls; it has a corrugated iron roof, and is gabled at the end. Map evidence suggests this building was once part of a large courtyard plan arrangement with a stockyard to the west. Originally the building extended further north, but was partially demolished to provide a track down to the fields west of the main house.

Full Description

Reference from archaeological survey: "A slightly longer building on this site is shown on the tithe map of 1842. Historic map evidence suggests that it was once part of a large courtyard plan arrangement with a stockyard to its west. This building extended further to the north at that date and has been broken through at the north end to give a track down to the fields west of the house…" (1)
