Monument record TR 15 NE 1581 - Roman Quarry Pits, Canterbury Police Station, Old Dover Road

Summary

Jenkins recorded the presence of gravel quarries, cut deep into the natural brickearth, to a depth of up to c. 4m. When excavated these yielded a number of 1st-2nd century AD artefacts including pottery, coins, pins and brooches. A zoomorphic knife blade was also recovered, a Roman clasp knife with the handle of a snarling feline animal.
