Excavation and watching brief on land at the Sensory Gardens Site, Transport Quarter, Gravesend. Undertaken by Archaeology South East between October 2010 and February 2011.

Three struck flints were recovered from a hillwash deposit of silty sand colluvium which also contained charcoal flecking and partial cow skeleton, and contained deposits of no later than 5th/6th century date. One further residual flint was recovered from disturbed cemetery soil.

All of the pieces are manufactured from fine grained almost translucent light brown to dark brown flint with a thin abraded outer surface. They display light edge chipping which implies that the material
has undergone a small degree of post-depositional disturbance. The small assemblage consists of pieces of debitage including two flakes and two flake fragments. They exhibit flake scar removals on their dorsal face. None of the struck flints are diagnostic of a particular period. Nonetheless, they indicate prehistoric activities in the vicinity of the site and could well indicate
early prehistoric activities (Mesolithic and Neolithic). (1)
