Monument record TR 15 NW 2108 - Roman Road Metalling, Marlowe Avenue
Summary
During service trenching in Marlowe Avenue in 1958 Frank Jenkins observed 7-8 succesive layers of hard rammed gravel 0.74m thick, c. 8m SW of the Watling Street Junction. These were interpreted as Roman Watling Street which lay at a depth of 1.8m beneath the surface.
