Summary
During the installation of a drainage system in 1868 James Pilbrow, the City Engineer, observed a wall in the High Street, opposite the site of All Saints Church. This was at a depth and was of solid masonry composed of squared stones 0.33m thick and well joints. It measured 3.66m and was laid on a bed of concrete.
