Monument record TR 15 NE 1527 - Roman inhumations, opposite 17 Lower Bridge Street

Summary

During work on the main drainage system of Canterbury James Pilbrow, the City Engineer, observed 4 skeletons at a site opposite 17 Lower Bridge Street. These were thought to be Roman; located at 1.22m below the surface and each with a stake through the upper part of them. Summary from record TR 15 NE 314: Four probable Roman skeletons were found four feet deep in Bridge Street in 1868
