Monument record TR 15 NE 1528 - Roman Human Remains, Watling Street Traffic Island, outside Ridingate
Summary
During work on the main drainage system in Canterbury the City Engineer, James Pilbrow, observed human bones, a small coin and part of a large horn of Cervus Elephus 4.57m deep; outside the archway of the Riding Gate. At 9.75m from the outer face of the gateway many skeletons and jaws were found. Probably of Roman date.
