Monument record TR 15 NE 1534 - Roman Timber Buildings, 46/47 Burgate Street

Summary

The excavations in the cellar revealed layers of Roman date. The deposits appear to relate to successive periods from the 1st to the 4th century. Partly overlying a deep rubbish pit traces of wood associated with numerous large nails, post-holes and other evidence, suggested the remains of a wooded building, dated by pottery and other finds to the 1st century.
