Full Description

In February 1999 The Canterbury Archaeological Trust excavated on the site of the former Cattle Market on the north side of Canterbury. The work was undertaken prior to the building of new housing and the sitecode was MW99 and the work followed an evalution undertaken in 1998 (MW98).

Roman activity was detected, suggesting more extensive activity than was previously supposed.
There was no evidence for Roman industry on the site, but the presence of a Roman inhumation wihin an enclosure may indicate domestic occupation in the immediate vicinity at some time in the later 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. (1)
