Full Description
Between 1956-9 Frank Jenkins and the Stour Valley Research Group excavated upon land at Whitehall Gardens prior to the construction of residential housing by Hawkes Construction Ltd and Child Bros. Two pottery kilns and a tilery of Roman date were uncovered.
Kilns I and II were found in the spring of 1956 during the construction of a new road whilst Kiln III was located during the digging of foundations for a bungalow.
The Kilns were loacted at:
Kiln I 144, 580
Kiln II 144, 581
Kiln III 143, 580
The pottery found in association with the kilns date them to the second half of the second century AD.
