Possible castellated slit trench south of Chambers Wall visible on 1990 aerial photographs(1)
A length of Second World War castellated slit trench seen as a cropmark south of Chambers Wall and mapped from aerial photographs -Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 14-APR-2015- as part of the Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. The trench appears as an arc c.100m long aligned NE-SW east of Warehorn. This forms one small part of the extensive defences constructed around the village of St Nicholas at Wade between 1940 and 1941 when it became a designated Defended Area protecting the crossing point inland from Isle of Thanet (2).
