[TQ 54787468] In 1941, while laying an electric cable on Temple Hill, Dartford, Mr. R.Clark reports that, at the NW entrance to the St. Vincent's Boys' Homes, traces of Roman foundations were found, of which he place a drawing with the local Antiquarian Society. [Drawing shows inspection chamber close by entrance gates to school, marked with and 'A', presumably the find spot.] (1) Roman tiles found at top of Temple Hill, in the excavation for an inspection chamber to telephone cables, marked 'A' on plan. The few fragments found in situ were at a depth of 1'10" below the surface of the road and 5" above bed chalk. There are fragments of six tiles, each about 1'3" x 10" and 1 3/8" thick.
