Full Description

Cropmark of rectangular enclosed settlement with no entrance or internal features sited to TQ 6757 7153 from good quality air photographs. (1)

The incomplete cropmark of a possible Later Prehistoric or Roman enclosure can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1977. This feature is defined by a ditch circa 0.5m wide and partially overlies or is overlain by a possible Bronze Age enclosure (NMR 765291). A Roman date was ascribed by the previous authority, presumably as it was seen as a rectangular feature. A wider date range has now been given as on the 1977 photographs this feature appears more curvilinear than rectangular. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(2)
