Full Description
21-OCT-1959 Steel pontoon 40ft in length made up of 14 sections bolted together now broken in half originally came ashore 4 miles W of Dungeness. 25-DEC-1945 Been driven to position 50 54 36N 000 56 24E or 266deg 1.6Miles from Dungeness Lt one section lying just below LW and one section lying just above LW approx dimensions 40ft by 6ft. 21-OCT-1959 Positions (a) Dungeness Lt Ho 090deg 1.94 Miles and (b) 180deg 200ft from (a) 21-OCT-1959 Searched for by HMS UPLIFTER AUG and SEP-1952 divers and bottom sweeps carried out no trace of wreck. 21-OCT-1959 Surveyed without positive results, a visual examination was made at lw and bottom sweeps carried out 1 cable either side of reported position with echosounder search over area 5 cables long and 2.5 Cables wide. 09-APR-1975 Not located not found during normal sounding no close search general sea bed depth by echosounder 0.5m. This area was surveyed as part of the South East RCZAS NMP project. No steel pontoons were visible on vertical aerial photographs of 1941, 1946, 1973 or 1988 at the grid reference specified. It is possible this record is duplicated by Monument Number 900600 (2)
