Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: ES Orientation: 050230 09-FEB-1978 Wreck, least depth 16.8 in general depth 22.5m, Located in 51 01 01N 001 16 35E. Sonar height 5.5m. 25-OCT-1977 In 51 01 01N 001 16 35E. Ng coords 629780E, 129335N. Least echosounder depth 16.8 in general depth 22.5m. No scour. Side scan sonar height 5.5m, Length 55m. Lies 050/230 deg. Sonar trace indicates that it is probably a submarine sitting upright on seabed. 22-SEP-1982 Confirmed as a submarine. Sitting upright on seabed. 08-AUG-1991 Wreck in 51 00 59N 001 16 28E. Dived on. Thought to be a WWI German submarine. Could be either wreck of UB55 (see HO 012300640) or UC46 (see HO 012302624). (1)
Now thought to perhaps be UB-78, sunk with all hands on 19th April 1918 after striking a mine (2)
