Full Description
Large 15th century drain between Meister Omer's Kitchen and priory wall.
The watching brief began after the foundations had been laid, this process destroying all but a 2m. Length of a well-preserved 15th century drain. When excavated the drain ran approximately SW/NE across the site, and pierced the 12th century Priory wall under an inserted relieving arch, obviously contemporary with the drain. The drain was 0.9m wide, with an invert of massive ragstone blocks varying in length from 0.31m to 1.32m (seven in situ blocks of total length 5.2m had already been removed by the building contractor during the laying of the foundations).
