Three phases of Norman foundation work were uncovered. Later Medieval structural remains were excavated including a 14th century clasping buttress which had been added to the south east corner of the church. Two further butresses were also added onto the south wall of the church during the same period. These three structures represented a strengthening operation for the south west corner of the church. It was at this time, or just after that the chantry chapel was constructed and two burials connected to the chantry were also excavated. The whole west end of the church was remodelled in 15th and 16th centuries, evident in the upstanding as well as the archaeological remains. A new façade was added on the north west tower and various refacings and rebuildings of structural elements took place at this time. Also examined were a 16th century wall and a building interpreted as a temporary workshop for the men given the task of dismantling the church buildings during the Dissolution. It is thought to have been built whilst the Chantry chapel still stood as it respected it in location.
