Full Description

In April 1957 4 trenches were excavated by the Canterbury Excavation Committee on the site of the current 10 Rose Lane. In the centre and east of the area two Belgic layers overlay the natural subsoil. Three Late Iron Age coins and Belgic pottery were found. Sealing this was a thick Roman spread of dark charcoaly occupation earth which also yielded Belgic pottery, thought to be residual.

The coins consisted of 2 speculum coins of Allen Class II and a bronze coin of Dubnovellaunus.
